How to play Whack-a-Mole
Choose Classic, Endless, or Daily. Classic and Daily last 60 seconds. Daily is the shared UTC run — open it with ?daily=1 — and uses the date for every spawn until the next midnight. Endless has no clock. Switch modes from the start screen, or after a run.
A 3×3 of dark wells lights up with glowing embers. Tap an ember before it fades. From level 3 two wells can be lit at once, and from level 5 three can. A new ember will not reuse the well that just lit when another well is free.
You level up every 8 hits. Higher levels shorten how long an ember stays up and how long the game waits before the next set. At level 5 and after, Classic and Daily roll those times inside 350–450 ms visible and 450–550 ms between sets. Endless instead glides the visible time down inside each level band, from 900 ms toward 350 ms, and then holds 350 ms.
Classic and Daily give you 3 lives. Letting an ember fade costs nothing. Tapping an empty well costs a life and resets your combo. The run ends at 0 lives or when the 60 seconds are up.
Endless ends after 3 misses. A faded ember or an empty well is a miss. Only the empty well resets your combo. Score and best stay on screen during the run. Mute is in the header settings and is saved on this device.
Each hit scores round(10 × combo × speed) using the level you were on before that hit. Combo is ×1, then ×1.25 from a streak of 5, ×1.5 from 10, and ×2 from 20. An empty well resets the streak; a faded ember does not. Speed is ×1, ×1.1, ×1.2, ×1.3, and ×1.5 for levels 1 through 5 and above. Visible time and the gap before the next set are 900/1000 ms, 750/850, 600/700, and 500/600 for levels 1–4. The screen shakes at combo 5, 10, and 20. Classic, Endless, and Daily each keep a best score on this device. Top % on the result is an on-device estimate from exp(−score/900), not a live leaderboard.
