How to play Crazy Eights
Choose Single Round, First to 100, or Daily, plus Easy, Medium, or Hard, and 1, 2, or 3 computer opponents. Daily locks you against 2 Medium computers for one round, with Max 3 draws then pass on and action cards off. Everyone gets that UTC date’s deal until midnight. Open Daily from a link with ?daily=1. You sit at the bottom. Nova is on the left, Juno on top, and Rex on the right.
Two players are dealt 7 cards. Three or four players are dealt 5. A starter is flipped. If it is an 8, it goes back, the pile is shuffled, and another card is turned. You play first unless action cards are on and the starter is a 2, the Queen of Spades, or an Ace.
Play a card that matches the active suit or the top discard’s rank. An 8 is always legal. If you still have cards, an 8 asks you to name the next suit. Going out on an 8 does not ask. Any other card sets the active suit to its own suit. The suit indicator shows the suit in play.
With no legal card, tap the draw pile for one card. Max 3 draws then pass is on by default: a third card that still does not match ends the turn. Turn it off to draw until something matches or nothing is left. A playable drawn card can be played. An empty pile shuffles the discard under its top card. If only that top card is left, the turn passes. A full lap where every seat passes and nobody draws ends the round drawn.
Action cards are off by default. When they are on, a 2 makes the next seat draw 2 and skip, the Queen of Spades makes the next seat draw 5 and skip, and an Ace reverses direction. With two players an Ace skips the other seat and you play again. Those draws take as many cards as are left. An opening 2, Queen of Spades, or Ace hits you before the first turn. Going out on one of those still applies the draw, then scores the cards.
Easy plays a random legal card and names a random suit on an 8. Medium plays the highest card that is not an 8, saving an 8 until nothing else is legal, and names the suit it holds the most of. Hard also names a suit an opponent had to draw for, avoids emptying a suit when another card would not, and plays an 8 when an opponent has 1 or 2 cards. The gear saves Max 3 draws then pass, action cards, opponents, difficulty, and mode on this device.
An 8 scores 50, a 10, jack, queen, or king scores 10, an ace scores 1, and 2–9 score their face value. Only the player who empties their hand scores that total. First to 100 keeps the totals and deals again until someone reaches 100. A drawn round scores 0. In First to 100 the scores stay and another hand is dealt. Wins and losses are saved on this device by difficulty and opponent count. A drawn round does not change that record or the streak. A First to 100 match counts once, at the end. Daily best is the fewest turns among daily wins, and today’s best is kept for the UTC date.
