How to play Reversi
Choose Vs Computer (Easy, Medium, or Hard), Pass & Play, or Daily. Daily is always Medium. It uses the UTC date for a shared opening and for tie-breaks, so the same moves get the same computer replies until midnight. Open Daily from a link with ?daily=1.
You play dark and move first against the computer. In Pass & Play, two people share the device: dark moves first, then light. Tap a marked empty square. A move is legal only when it flips at least one straight line of the other color, horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
Flipped discs change color. If the side to move has no legal move, the turn passes and the board shows "No moves available." If neither side can move, the game ends. The higher disc count wins. Equal counts draw.
Easy plays a random legal move, and takes a corner when one is legal. Medium scores each move once, weighing flipped discs, corners, edge squares, and how many moves the opponent would have. Hard searches four moves ahead with corner-heavy square weights, tries corners first, and plays the position out when 10 or fewer squares are empty. A slow search stops after about 150ms and plays the best move found.
Vs Computer and Daily save wins, losses, draws, best winning margin, and the current win streak on this device. Easy, Medium, Hard, and Daily are saved separately. Pass & Play is not saved. The score is your final disc count. The result shows both counts, the outcome, Play again, and Daily.
The higher disc count wins when neither side can move. An equal count is a draw. The score is your final disc count (you play dark). Best margin is the largest win on this device, your discs minus the computer's. The win streak counts consecutive wins and resets on a loss or a draw. Vs Computer keeps those stats separately for Easy, Medium, and Hard. Daily keeps its own. Pass & Play does not change them.
