How to play 2048
Swipe, or use the Arrow keys or WASD, to slide every tile on the 4×4 board in one direction. Two equal tiles that meet merge into one tile of double the value.
After every move that changes the board, a new tile appears in a random empty cell — usually a 2, sometimes a 4. A move that changes nothing does not count and spawns nothing.
Classic: build a 2048 tile. Reaching it shows a keep-playing banner; the run ends only when no direction can move.
60-Second Challenge: same board, but the clock starts on your first real move and the run ends at 0:00 whether or not you reached 2048. Score as much as you can.
Daily: Classic rules on a board seeded by the UTC date, so the opening tiles and every later spawn match for everyone who plays the same moves that day. Replays are allowed.
Switch modes before your first move or from the result screen, so a run is never wiped mid-board.
Each merge scores the new tile’s value (2 + 2 scores 4). Merges within one swipe are counted in slide order, and the nth merge in that swipe scores value × n — a single merge matches classic 2048, while extra merges in the same move ramp the multiplier. Each mode keeps its own best score on this device, and Daily also keeps today’s best separately from the all-time daily best. Top % on the result is an on-device estimate from a fixed score curve, not a live leaderboard.
