How to play Connect Four
Choose Quick (one game), First to 3, Best of 5, or Daily, and Easy, Medium, or Hard. Daily is always Medium. Open Daily from a link with ?daily=1.
You always move first. Tap or click a column to drop an amber disc. The column highlights, then the disc drops. The computer plays teal.
A full column cannot be played. Connect four of your discs in a row horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
Easy picks a random legal column, but takes a one-move win or block when one exists. Medium searches four moves ahead (win, block, center columns, then open threes). Hard searches about six moves ahead and, unless the move is forced, picks among near-best columns with a bias toward the center.
Daily uses the UTC date to break ties, so the same moves get the same computer replies until the next midnight. Rematch and difficulty stay on the result screen. First to 3 and Best of 5 keep the series score for this session.
Each game scores 100 for a win, 25 for a draw, and 0 for a loss. A win in 15 plies or fewer adds 50; a win in 20 plies or fewer adds 25, and those bonuses do not stack. A ply is one disc dropped by either side. The win streak is saved on this device and resets on a draw or a loss. Best score is saved separately for Easy, Medium, and Hard. Daily uses the Medium best.
