How to play Grid Wars
Choose Classic, Free-for-all, or Daily, plus Easy, Medium, or Hard. Classic is 7×7 against one computer. Free-for-all is 9×9 with 1, 2, or 3 computers. Daily is 7×7 vs one Medium computer with random walls — open it from a link with ?daily=1. Daily locks Medium and uses the UTC date so everyone gets the same walls until midnight.
You start in the north-west corner (blue). Two players use opposite corners; more players fill north-east, south-west, then south-east. Tap an empty cell that is orthogonally next to a cell you own. Walls and occupied cells are illegal. Legal cells glow.
After you place, each enemy cell orthogonally next to the new cell is scored on that snapshot: if more of your cells than its owner’s cells touch it (orthogonal only; the new cell counts), it flips to you. All flips apply together — no chain reactions.
A player with no legal cell skips the turn. A player with 0 cells is eliminated from the turn order. The game ends when no empty cells remain, or every remaining player has no legal move.
Undo (on by default, saved on this device) removes your last placement and every computer reply after it, and can be repeated through earlier turns. It is disabled while the computer is thinking.
Score is cells owned. The highest count wins; a tie for highest is shared. Stats on this device store wins, losses, and shared results by mode and difficulty: Classic and free-for-all each split Easy, Medium, and Hard, plus a separate Daily bucket. Free-for-all opponent count does not split the record. A strict highest score is a win; sharing first is a draw. Best margin is your cells minus the strongest opponent, updated on wins. Daily also stores the best cell difference on this device whenever a finished daily is higher.
