How to play Checkers

  1. Choose Vs Computer or 2 players. Against the computer, pick Easy, Medium, or Hard, and who moves first: You or the Computer. In 2 players, two people share one device, and Bottom or Top can move first. Red sits on the three rows nearest the bottom. White sits on the top three rows. Red moves first unless the start screen says otherwise.
  2. Play is on the dark squares. Men move one step diagonally forward. A piece that reaches the far rank becomes a king and can then step one square diagonally in any direction.
  3. A capture jumps an adjacent enemy onto the empty square just beyond. Men jump forward only. Kings jump one step either way. If any capture is available, a quiet move is illegal, and you may choose any capturing piece. A multi-jump is one move: that piece keeps jumping while it can. If a man lands on the far rank in the middle of a jump, it is crowned and the turn ends.
  4. A side with no legal move loses. A draw can be claimed after 40 moves with no capture and no man move, counting each side’s turn, or when the same position with the same side to move has appeared three times. The computer always accepts. You can decline and keep playing while the condition still holds.
  5. Tap a piece, then a highlighted landing. When a jump continues, that piece stays selected. Hint highlights a suggested move and does not play it, up to 3 times a game. Undo takes back your last full move and the computer’s reply. In 2 players it takes back one move. Hard allows 3 undos; Easy and Medium do not limit them.

Wins, losses, and draws are saved on this device for Easy, Medium, and Hard. Fastest win is the fewest moves you made in a win, kept separately for each difficulty. 2 players is not saved.
